Q: My hedgehogs prefer wet food?
A: Buying wet food is expensive because you're paying for the water. Our dry formula can be easily rehydrated by adding a little warm water. This will make it easier for young and fussy hedgehogs to consume. Please note, it is still worth tempting them with some biscuits because this is good for their teeth.
Q: What is the difference between the Original and Hedgehog Mix?
A: The Original is a complete nutritionally balanced feed that promotes animal health, especially any underweight visitors. Whereas, the Hedgehog mix is a general food for your nighttime visitor.
Q: Will cats and foxes eat Ark Hedgehog Original?
A: Ark Hedgehog Original is a high quality meat feed that will attract cats. It includes fresh chicken meat for protein and liver digest as an attractant (and vitamin content). Original has been specifically formulated as a complete food for European hedgehogs by animal nutritionists, with advice from wildlife vets and hospitals. It has the correct balance of protein, fat and essential fibre for hedgehogs and is readily eaten by wild and captive hedgehogs of all ages.
While cats, foxes and even badgers may also be inclined to eat it, there are no known issues or ingredients that would harm any of these animals. Where cats or other animals may be present, we would suggest putting the Original under a slate or cover, or use a Hedgehog Feeding Station, so that only the hedgehogs can get to the food and where they can eat in peace.
Q: How much food should I give my visiting hedgehogs?
A: About a handful of food per hedgehog per evening will be fine. Hedgehogs are regular foragers, they tend to come and feed for 5-10 minutes, then wander off, possibly visiting the feeding station 2-3 times a night. Their ‘little and often’ approach means that if one source of food dries up, they will already be aware of several sites to visit.
