The Homebee Honeyhive is an exciting new product which gives both newcomers and experienced beekeepers a high quality Top Bar hive for keeping honey bees in a less intensive way. It will provide modest honey returns but ensures the bees are able to use the hive system in a natural way, benefitting their long term health. Through clever design it can be later converted or even supplied as a traditional WBC box with frames and wax foundation for greater honey production.

This unique Honeybee Hive will make an attractive addition to any garden and is solidly built with double insulation for winter protection and excellent airflow around the hive box which is ideal for damp conditions. With more extremes of climate expected this could be essential for the long term survival and health of honey bees.

Before investing in a bee hive it is worth researching bee keeping literature and/or taking a bee keeping course (many local bee keeping clubs offer free introductions) to understand what other equipment you may need.

Top Bar Kit
The top bar system is the simple, natural way to keep bees, with the principle similar to a warrè concept but larger. It is very flexible and additional boxes (supers) can be added if required. It needs minimum intervention and is ideal for family beekeeping. In its simplest form just leave the bees to get on with their job of honey production (which is their natural winter food supply) and then in the spring harvest any surplus honey from the hive as the bees begin the new season.
Beekeepers all have very strong views and all have different preferences to the best way of keeping honey bees. The exciting benefit of the Homebee Honeyhive is that if you decide to change beekeeping technique in the future that is possible by just buying different internals.

Adjustable entrance aperture

WBC Frames Version
The brood box is supplied with a traditional WBC box complete with frames and wax foundation, which has been the favoured system for the majority of beekeepers for many years. Extra hexagonal lifts are available as well as additional frames. Standard bee keeping requires more maintenance and care than Top Bar bee keeping.
In addition to the attractive as well as practical Homebee Honeyhive is the benefit that you can change to top bar beekeeping at any point in the future simply by buying different internals.
