Our wildflower seeds and wildflower seed mixed collections are conservation grade meadow mixtures packed with common perennial flowering seeds. Our perennial wild flower seed mixes are more suitable for poor soils, light sub-soils, grits, gravels and limey soils. Establishment will be slow and don’t expect wild flowers until year two but you should be rewarded with colourful displays from then on.
Wild flower seeds can be sown in spring or autumn and this will affect whether they become spring or summer flowering. For a good show of perennial wildflowers prepare the surface well, removing any weeds first and surface sow the wild flower seeds at 1g per square metre into a clean well raked level area. Mow or strim your wildflower corner only after the wildflower seeds have dropped.
Wildflowers are important because they cover our landscape, supporting wildlife with early and late sources of nectar before and after non-native plants are in colour. Wildflower plants are also vital to many butterfly and moth species that require them for egg laying and larval development in addition to a source of nectar to the adults.
