What are Seed Balls?
Seed balls are a clever combination of clay, native wildflower seeds and chilli that helps the seeds become established only when conditions suit them. The chilli helps prevent predators and rodents from stealing the seeds before they germinate.
They can be used in pots and baskets just as successfully as in gardens and borders and only need a spot of bare earth and moisture to start growing. They really are a simple as taking a handful of seed balls and scattering them on the ground. No digging, planting or bending required.
Seed bombing with Seed Balls
All our wildflower seeds are from carefully selected managed UK provenance stocks with high germination rates. The combination of UK provenance and managed stocks (rather than collected from the wild, depleting already low numbers) means they are also great for guerrilla gardening. Seed ball bombing, or planting wildflower seeds in public spaces has become popular and beneficial in recent times. Please be sensible where you seed ball bomb, but brightly coloured verges can make a journey to work more pleasurable as well as beneficial to insects!
