Oats for Birds

Pinhead oats and naked rolled oats from Ark Wildlife can be used for bird tables and ground feeding for many species of birds, including songbirds. The rolled oats have been through the micronisation process (reducing the size of the particles) and this increases the oil content and digestibility, providing a greater energy value food source.

The different ways oats are used in bird food

Oats can be used successfully on their own or added to your favourite mixes. Just sprinkle oats on a ground feeder or a bird table to watch the birds enjoying them in your garden.

We have a range of bird food mixes at Ark which include the nutritious goodness of oats, or we can offer the highest quality straight oats.

If you are unsure which would work best for you, just give us a call on free phone 0800 085 4865 and we can help.

Can I give my garden birds cooked porridge?

You should never put cooked porridge oats on your bird table as oats become glutinous when cooked and the residual porridge on the bird’s beak can harden after eating, making the beak difficult to open once the bird has flown away. However, we are pleased to say that Ark Wildlife uncooked porridge oats are perfectly safe for birds and are readily eaten up by many bird species.

Wild birds need water as much as food, for drinking and bathing. We always recommend putting fresh clean water out every day of the year.
