This attractive woven willow basket is similar in construction and shape to the abandoned birds nests that Long-eared Owls and Hobbies like to adopt.
If sited in a hedgerow or tree with dry nesting material it may be used by the nocturnal and shy Long eared owl.
For hobbies, the nesting basket should be sited near the top of a tree at the edge of a woodland, overlooking farmland or wetland.
Siting
Place the basket in a hedgerow or close to the trunk on a V-shaped branch of a tree. It can be secured using straps if required (not supplied). Ensure that the owls have a free flight path to the nest basket. Fill the basket up to half way with nesting material such as peat, forest soil or dry leaves.
