This attractive woven willow basket is similar in construction and shape to the abandoned birds nests that Long-eared Owls and Hobbies like to adopt.

If sited in a hedgerow or tree with dry nesting material it may be used by the nocturnal and shy Long eared owl.For hobbies, the nesting basket should be sited near the top of a tree at the edge of a woodland, overlooking farmland or wetland.

Siting:
Place the basket in a hedgerow or close to the trunk on a V-shaped branch of a tree. It can be secured using straps if required (not supplied). Ensure that the owls have a free flight path to the nest basket. Fill the basket up to half way with nesting material such as peat, forest soil or dry leaves.
