Constructed from a mix of concrete and wood fibres, WoodStone® nest boxes give excellent protection from predators including woodpeckers, cats and squirrels. The material insulates the nest which creates a more consistent internal temperature than an ordinary wooden box. This is especially important during the breeding season and ensures that young birds have a greater chance of survival.
These open nest boxes will be used by Robins and Wrens (if well hidden), Spotted Flycatchers, Pied and Grey Wagtails, Song Thrushes and Blackbirds.
Siting
If it is likely the box will be used by a Robin or Wren, place the nest box at a height of one metre within dense bush or hedgerow, ensuring it is concealed. If placing in a forest area, hang the nest box at a minimum height of two metres, and if in an urban or industrial area, place the nesting box preferably under eaves, overhangs or carports.
