What is it?
One of the most popular items in our No Mess range of bird food - the Ark Hearty™ Mealworm Mix is a superior mixture that packs in protein power for tits, finches and other smaller birds.

How does it help?
This just isn’t any mealworm mix. Featuring over 65% sunflower hearts and all the best small seeds, with a generous helping of mealworms, it’s full of protein to give small birds an energy boost. Being wheat free with zero fillers, this is a mealworm mix that truly cares for the health of the small birds in your garden. You’ll be able to enjoy watching a range of birds feasting on this mix.

Meeting a demand for natural, nutritious wildlife food

In those early days, Sean constantly received requests for help in making his clients’ natural gardens more wildlife friendly. Requests for bird food encouraged Sean to research bird feeding, and at that time he found problems in the market with quality and service. He knew then the only way forward was to create his own natural, nutritious range of wildlife food and present it in a way which benefited both the wildlife and the customer. Ark Wildlife was born.

Frequently Asked Questions

The birds often drop the tiny round seeds, is this because they don't like them?

The small round seeds you refer to in the Ark Hearty™ Mealworm Mix are the red and white dari, which are high carbohydrate tonic seeds. All our mixes are specially formulated for wild birds’ nutritional requirements and the birds will take the tonic seeds as and when they need them throughout the year. Obviously this will mean that with changes in season and migration patterns the amount of tonic seeds they require will vary.

I've opened my bag and I can't see any mealworms, have you sent me the right stuff?

We use ribbon mixing technology that means the entire batch is mixed continuously to ensure consistent mixes from the first to the last bag. This does however have one drawback and that is that the mealworms degrade (get smashed) during the mixing process and the early bags tend to have more ‘wholes’ than the tail of the mix. The crushed mealworms adhere to the seeds and the birds get the full benefit of the additional protein in their diet despite the variable look of the product.

I have lots of mix still in my shed, is it safe to use it during the winter?

Ark Hearty™ Mealworm Mix is suitable for use all year round and will benefit the birds whatever the season.

Is this mix just for tube seed feeders?

This incredibly popular blend of nutritionally balanced seeds can be used in all areas of the garden, tube feeders, bird tables and scattered on the ground. As it has a high proportion of sunflower hearts all the birds are able to access it, including the soft billed songbirds.
