Used at Vale Wildlife Hospital
Vale Wildlife Hospital is one of the UK’s largest wildlife rescue hospitals. Their knowledge and expertise is reflected by the professional staff employed. Each year they rescue more than 7,500 injured and sick animals, including 2,000 hedgehogs. Vale Hedgehog Food is used daily to help rehabilitate them, helping them gain weight and vitality before release back to the wild.

What is it?
It’s made with plenty of meat and fibre, and selected vitamins and minerals, a balanced diet containing just what hedgehogs need. With a calcium/phosphorous ratio of 2:1 you know it will also build healthy and strong bones and spines.

The size and shape of the crunchy biscuit is designed to assist with dental hygiene, whilst remaining highly palatable to hedgehogs of all ages. Young or infirm hedgehogs may benefit by soaking the Vale Hedgehog Food in warm water for a few minutes before serving.

How does it help?
Hedgehogs are natural scavengers that eat almost everything they find. Unlike many kitten foods and other pet foods, Vale’s Hedgehog Food is made with lower protein and fat and higher fibre content. This makes it closer to the varied diet hedgehogs find in the wild. This creates a natural foraging eating habit, without creating dependence.

Offer a small handful of food per visiting hedgehog per night, along with a shallow sided dish with fresh water. Hedgehogs are regular foragers, and tend to feed for 5-15 minutes, then wander off, possibly visiting the feeding station 2-3 times a night.

Helpful – Caring – Responsible

When Sean McMenemy started Noah’s Ark Wildlife Gardens as a landscaping business back in 1991, little did he know what a huge impact he was to make on the bird feeding and garden wildlife industries over the following decades.

Over 30-years later he still brings the same passion for garden wildlife to work every day, so it’s no wonder we’re so highly respected. Our expertise lies in providing carefully selected natural food and products that offer significant benefits to wildlife – with the type of customer service only true enthusiasm for our subject can bring.

Meeting a demand for natural, nutritious wildlife food

In those early days, Sean constantly received requests for help in making his clients’ natural gardens more wildlife friendly. Requests for bird food encouraged Sean to research bird feeding, and at that time he found problems in the market with quality and service. He knew then the only way forward was to create his own natural, nutritious range of wildlife food and present it in a way which benefited both the wildlife and the customer. Ark Wildlife was born.

The company has steadily grown since those early days, now standing as one of the UK’s largest independent suppliers of bird food and garden wildlife products, despatching over 500 parcels per day across the United Kingdom.

Exceptional service, because we care more than we can put into words

No matter how large our business is now, Ark Wildlife aims to combine the convenience of an online mail order outlet with the caring, helpful touch of a specialist shop. Our people make the difference. We take great pride in the energy, commitment and enthusiasm of our ever-growing workforce, still led by our inspirational driving force, Sean. If you read through some of Sean’s blog posts you will see how knowledgeable he is and how much he cares for the welfare of our wildlife.

Frequently Asked Questions

My hedgehogs prefer wet food?

Buying wet food is expensive because you're paying for the water. Our dry formula can be easily rehydrated by adding a little warm water. This will make it easier for young and fussy hedgehogs to consume. Please note, it is still worth tempting them with some biscuits because this is good for their teeth.

How much food should I give my visiting hedgehogs?

About a handful of food per hedgehog per night will be fine. Hedgehogs are regular foragers, they tend to come and feed for 5-10 minutes, then wander off, possibly visiting the feeding station 2-3 times a night. Their ‘little and often’ approach means that if one source of food dries up, they will already be aware of several sites to visit.

What else can I feed hedgehogs?
