Schwegler 2F Bat Box

The ever popular, general purpose Schwegler 2F Bat Box is the ideal `starter` box to test if there are bats in your area or to provide much needed secure roosting space.

This very popular bat box is used in a wide variety of situations including domestic gardens and woodlands and can be sited on a wall or mature tree. Manufactured from highly-insulated woodcrete - a blend of wood, concrete and clay, this breathable, weather-resistant material is rot proof and gives excellent predator protection.

The 2F has a removable front panel and if it is not occupied after a number of years, it can easily be converted to a bird nest box using a replacement 1B front panel.

Please note that should inspection and cleaning of an occupied box be required, that it must be carried out by a licensed professional.

Siting and Positioning:
Place at a height of between 3 and 6 metres on trees
and as high as possible (close to the eaves for additional shelter from the weather) on buildings. Ensure a clear, unobstructed approach/entry path.

Bats like warmth so boxes should be south, southeast or southwest facing to ensure exposure to the sun for part of the day.

Bats are nocturnal and adapted to low light conditions. Artificial light sources should not be directed either on to the box or the approach/entry path to the box.

Cleaning and Inspection:
Easy Cleaning and inspection due to removeable front panel. If occupied by bats, inspection and cleaning must be carried out by a licensed professional

Helpful – Caring – Responsible

When Sean McMenemy started Noah’s Ark Wildlife Gardens as a landscaping business back in 1991, little did he know what a huge impact he was to make on the bird feeding and garden wildlife industries over the following decades.

Over 30-years later he still brings the same passion for garden wildlife to work every day, so it’s no wonder we’re so highly respected. Our expertise lies in providing carefully selected natural food and products that offer significant benefits to wildlife – with the type of customer service only true enthusiasm for our subject can bring.

Meeting a demand for natural, nutritious wildlife food

In those early days, Sean constantly received requests for help in making his clients’ natural gardens more wildlife friendly. Requests for bird food encouraged Sean to research bird feeding, and at that time he found problems in the market with quality and service. He knew then the only way forward was to create his own natural, nutritious range of wildlife food and present it in a way which benefited both the wildlife and the customer. Ark Wildlife was born.

The company has steadily grown since those early days, now standing as one of the UK’s largest independent suppliers of bird food and garden wildlife products, despatching over 500 parcels per day across the United Kingdom.

Exceptional service, because we care more than we can put into words

No matter how large our business is now, Ark Wildlife aims to combine the convenience of an online mail order outlet with the caring, helpful touch of a specialist shop. Our people make the difference. We take great pride in the energy, commitment and enthusiasm of our ever-growing workforce, still led by our inspirational driving force, Sean. If you read through some of Sean’s blog posts you will see how knowledgeable he is and how much he cares for the welfare of our wildlife.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you open the Bat Box to clean it?

Should you need to clean the box ie if it has been occupied by birds or any other wildlife, lay the box down and straighten the silver clip on the bottom. Push front plate forward and it then lifts out. Please be aware that it is illegal for an unlicensed person to open and clean an occupied bat box.

Should I site one bat box on its own?

Ideally, put up two or three boxes facing in different directions to provide a range of temperature conditions. ie boxes facing from south-east to south-west allow the sun to fall on each box for part of the day. During very hot days a south-facing box may overheat, but the other boxes should have some shade.
