The Kingfisher Tunnel is manufactured from WoodStone, a tough long lasting material that is resistant to rot and offers insulation from extremes of temperature.

As Kingfishers are vulnerable to pollution and loss of habitat along poorly managed waterways, providing an additional habitat can assist these wonderful birds.

Siting:
The Kingfisher Tunnel should be placed in a vertical bank beside a slow moving river or lake. It should be completely buried so only the entrance is visible and at least one metre above the high water level. The tunnel should slope downwards from the nestbox at an angle of 10° to 20° to ensure adequate drainage.

Before use, put a layer of soil in the nest chamber and make a small cup shape to help keep the eggs together. If there are no nearby nesting perches in the water, placing an artifical one within a few metres of the nest will provide the kingfisher with a place to fish and look for predators.

Placing two boxes near to each other (at least two metres apart) will allow the female to make a second nest whilst the male cares for the first brood.
