Give solitary bees and garden insects a safe, lasting home with this eco-friendly insect hotel. Made from durable WoodStone®, it's a haven for pollinators and a charming, low-maintenance addition to any outdoor space.

Why Buy the WoodStone® Insect Block?

If you want to support local wildlife and improve your garden’s biodiversity, providing safe nesting spaces is one of the most impactful steps you can take. The WoodStone® Insect Block offers essential shelter for solitary bees and other beneficial insects, encouraging natural pollination and pest control in your garden. Unlike cheaper wooden alternatives, this insect habitat is built to last – no rotting, warping or cracking. Just a reliable, safe space for wildlife to thrive.

What Is It?

The WoodStone® Insect Block is a premium insect habitat crafted from WoodStone® – an innovative blend of sustainable wood fibres and concrete. Designed to contain replaceable bamboo tubes of varying diameter, it provides the ideal nesting environment for solitary bees like red mason and leafcutter bees. With a modern yet natural look, it blends well into gardens, allotments, balconies or even urban green spaces.

How Will It Help?

Solitary bees are among the UK’s most effective pollinators – far more efficient than honeybees – yet they face a shortage of nesting sites due to modern landscaping and habitat loss. By placing the WoodStone® Insect Block in your garden, you will:

  • Encourage pollination: boosting the health and yield of flowers, fruit, and vegetables
  • Support declining insect populations: helping balance your local ecosystem
  • Educate and inspire: offering a fascinating opportunity to watch pollinators up close

With little maintenance needed, this is the ultimate 'buy and enjoy' addition to your wildlife-friendly garden.

Siting & Maintenance Guide

To get the best from your WoodStone® Insect Block, place it in a sunny, sheltered area, ideally south or southeast facing. Mount on a fence or wall using the strong metal hook included.

Position: near pollen-rich flowering plants, so bees and bugs don’t have to travel far to forage.

Autumn & Winter care: Move your habitat to a shed, greenhouse, or dry shelter during wet, cold months to protect developing larvae and extend the insect box's life.

Tube care: Replace nesting tubes every 1–2 years. This prevents harmful bacteria and parasite build-up and keeps the space safe and inviting, ready for future insect guests.

By keeping your insect hotel well cared for, you’re giving pollinators the best possible chance to thrive and continuing your garden’s story as a sanctuary for wildlife.

Helpful – Caring – Responsible

When Sean McMenemy started Noah’s Ark Wildlife Gardens as a landscaping business back in 1991, little did he know what a huge impact he was to make on the bird feeding and garden wildlife industries over the following decades.

Over 30-years later he still brings the same passion for garden wildlife to work every day, so it’s no wonder we’re so highly respected. Our expertise lies in providing carefully selected natural food and products that offer significant benefits to wildlife – with the type of customer service only true enthusiasm for our subject can bring.

Meeting a demand for natural, nutritious wildlife food

In those early days, Sean constantly received requests for help in making his clients’ natural gardens more wildlife friendly. Requests for bird food encouraged Sean to research bird feeding, and at that time he found problems in the market with quality and service. He knew then the only way forward was to create his own natural, nutritious range of wildlife food and present it in a way which benefited both the wildlife and the customer. Ark Wildlife was born.

The company has steadily grown since those early days, now standing as one of the UK’s largest independent suppliers of bird food and garden wildlife products, despatching over 500 parcels per day across the United Kingdom.

Exceptional service, because we care more than we can put into words

No matter how large our business is now, Ark Wildlife aims to combine the convenience of an online mail order outlet with the caring, helpful touch of a specialist shop. Our people make the difference. We take great pride in the energy, commitment and enthusiasm of our ever-growing workforce, still led by our inspirational driving force, Sean. If you read through some of Sean’s blog posts you will see how knowledgeable he is and how much he cares for the welfare of our wildlife.
