Constructed from a mix of concrete and wood fibres, WoodStone® nest boxes give excellent protection from predators including woodpeckers, cats and squirrels. The material insulates the nest which creates a more consistent internal temperature than an ordinary wooden box. This is especially important during the breeding season and ensures that young birds have a greater chance of survival.

The 28mm hole will be used by Tree Sparrows, Blue Tits, Coal Tits and Great Tits. The 32mm hole will be used by Great Tits, Pied Flycatchers, Tree Sparrows and House Sparrows.

Siting:
Hang the nest box with the supplied screw or nail. Face the box somewhere between northeast to southeast, ensuring it is not in the sun all day.

Hang the nest box at a minimum height of 2 metres in the desired location.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will putting a feeder near a nest Box help to attract birds to the nest?

It would be unwise to place a feeder close to a nest box. We recommend keeping the two a good distance apart as birds visiting the feeder would be likely to disturb any nesting residents who will instinctively defend the nest which would waste time better spent on raising their young.

Are woodstone and woodcrete nest boxes better than wooden ones?

For longevity - absolutely. We would expect these nest boxes to last 25 years or more. In addition - woodstone and woodcrete nest boxes have the added benefit of maintaining a more stable temperature range within the box.

When should I put up my nest boxes?

We would recommend putting your Nest Boxes up in the Autumn. This gives the birds plenty of time to investigate and become familiar with them ahead of the breeding season.
