After 10 years online trading bird food and wildlife habitats and 20 years of history with a passion for garden wildlife, it’s no wonder we’re so highly respected. When Sean McMenemy started Noah’s Ark Natural Gardens as a landscaping business in 1991, little did he know what a huge impact he was to make on the bird feeding and garden wildlife industry over the next 20 years.

In those original days Sean constantly received requests for help in making his clients’ natural gardens more wildlife ‘friendly’. Requests for bird food encouraged Sean to research bird feeding, and at that time he found problems in the market with quality and service. He knew then the only way forward was to create his own natural, nutritious range of wildlife food and present it in a way the customer wanted and Ark Wildlife was born.
 
The company has steadily grown since those early days, now standing as one of the UK’s largest independent suppliers of bird food and garden wildlife products, despatching over 200 parcels per day across the United Kingdom.
 
Ark Wildlife aims to combine the convenience of an online mail order outlet with the caring, helpful touch of a specialist shop. We take great pride in the energy, commitment and enthusiasm of our ever growing workforce, still led by our inspirational driving force Sean.

A short history of Ark Wildlife

1991 – Noah’s Ark Natural Gardens opens garden landscaping services with an emphasis on native and wildlife friendly species planting schemes.

1997 – Trendy TV makeover programmes such as Ground Force and Homefront: In the Garden create huge demand for ‘outdoor rooms’ with large patios or decking and exotic hardy plants become favoured.

1998 – In contrast to current trends Sean changes the name of Noah’s Ark Natural Gardens to Noah’s Ark Wildlife Gardens concentrating on the development of wildlife areas within garden designs.

1999 – Noah’s Ark Wildlife Gardens starts designing and supplying nest boxes, wildlife habitats and bird food.

2001 – Responding to demand Noah’s Ark Wildlife Gardens launch their own range of carefully selected and blended natural bird feed mixes, under the brand name Ark.

2003 – The on-line shop is added to the website with ecommerce, allowing sales across the UK.

2007 – A major national pet food distributor copies the name Noah’s Ark (very flattering) and applies it to a bird care range resulting in a legal battle. Later, new Trade Marks are granted to Ark Wildlife to give them exclusive use of the brands across the whole pet, bird care and wildlife sectors.

2008 – Ark Wildlife moves to their new larger base at Dog Kennel Farm, Hitchin, Herts and make it administration and distribution HQ.

2010 – Our 100,000th bird food order is taken on-line, packed and despatched from Hertfordshire and delivered to Chesterfield in Derbyshire in just 24-hours (the same with all orders)!

2011 – New logo launched to better reflect Ark Wildlife’s continuing commitment to all garden wildlife; not just the birds.

The Future? – After 20 years providing natural food and habitats that offer significant benefit to garden wildlife, we look forward to the next 20 years with the same enthusiasm that we started.
