Flowering Seed Mixes
Wildflower seeds will not only create a beautiful and colourful addition to your garden but will provide food and habitats for a vast range of wildlife, such as bees and butterflies. These species play a significant role in supporting the ecosystem.
Read MoreOur wildflower seeds and wildflower seed mixed collections are conservation-grade meadow mixtures. Packed with common annual and perennial wildflower seed mixes, they are more suitable for poor soils, light sub-soils, grits, gravels and limey soils.
How to sow your wildflower seeds
You do not need acres of land to sow wildflowers. An area of lawn in a sunny and open area can be transformed into a miniature wildflower meadow, providing food and cover for a multitude of wildlife.
Wildflower seeds can be sown in spring or autumn, and this will affect whether they then flower in spring or summer. For a good show of perennial wildflowers, prepare the surface by removing any weeds first. Surface sow the seeds at 1g per square metre into a clean and well-raked area. They may be slow to establish themselves until around the second year after planting and then you will be rewarded with colourful displays. Your flowers will be easier to maintain than a traditional lawn and will provide interest and colour.
Why are wildflowers so important for our wildlife?
Wildflowers are very important because they support wildlife with early and late sources of nectar, both before and after non-native plants are in bloom. Native wildflower plants are also vital to many butterfly and moth species that require them for egg-laying and larval development, as well as providing a source of nectar for the adults.
